Dallas Market...and a good time was had by all!

Hello to everyone.  It's a new month and we just returned from the summer shows at the World Trade Center in Dallas.  What a fun time this always is.  Just to give you an idea of the magnitude of this Market, here's a picture of the atrium in the WTC:   World trade center

I cannot begin to describe to you how big this place is...at least to me coming from middle-state Missouri where our mall could fit on one side of one of these floors.  I'm looking around the picture to try and describe some of my favorite places to you.  Below the red, white, and blue striped flag is a Starbucks, that's where I get my afternoon caffeine which keeps me on my feet.  And a lot of those round things on the floor are soft cushy benches where you can find Mom sitting sometimes.  It sounds like we don't do anything but drink and sit but that's not true!  We usually arrive at market by 9 a.m. each day and don't leave until 6 p.m. (except for Friday which is late night and we leave at 8).  That doesn't sound like a bad day but keep in mind that we don't take a break, we walk and shop all day.  Grabbing a sandwich in whatever showroom we happen to be in a noon or thereabouts.  While eating on our feet.

The thing is, while it is a ton of work, it is a ton of fun.  My 14 year old step-daughter got to go for the first time this year.  She has waited since the first day her Dad and I met (it seems that way) to attend this market with me.  She had a great time!  My niece Christine was also along, as is typical. She's been coming for years.  She mentored Lindsey in the fine art of bag collection.  You know those bags everyone is buying to go to the grocery store?  A lot of the showrooms give away these types of bags (with their name on them of course) so that the market-goers have something in which to tote their catalogs.  My girls like to collect these.  They judge the best ones.  They can tell you what year bags were handed out when they see someone carrying an older version.  Or at least Christine can do all of this stuff, Lindsey was learning.  Next year they'll have to teach Hailey.

Ron came along too.  Did you know that a 4 year old could talk for 7 hours straight?  I didn't either until we started out from Springfield and he did not quit chattering until we got to Dallas.  Except for one little, very brief, 10 minute nap.  He spent the days with his Pappaw while we went to Market.  Then at night he planned activities for us such as a pool party.  That was fun.

Mom made the trip for the first time in a few years.  She got around great and made it into Market every day.  Her knee replacement is scheduled for this month so prayers please for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.  She of course timed her surgery around the Market and the Christmas season.  What a trooper!  As we were admiring her grit one day, Annette and I agreed that we hope we are as tough as she is when we are her age.

There were many funny moments.  Do you have those people that you just know you'll get to belly laugh with?  Well, this group is my people.  So I wait for it.  Annette does too.  We know that at some point, we'll get that soul-cleansing, tears running, people think your crazy giggle going that is obnoxious and infectious at the same time. It never translates here.  But if you ever get to do this, you know what I mean.  And if you don't, maybe you should come to Market with me next year.  You are guaranteed many good laughs.  Enjoy the day!  Becky

Mongrammed Wine Glasses, Finders Key Purse & Purse Hooks--My favorite gifts!

Besides Christmas, this time of year seems to be the next biggest gift-giving time of the year.  Birthdays, weddings, and Mother's Day...we have to have something for each.  I love these monogrammed wine glasses especially when combined with the monogrammed Finders Key Purse and purse hook.  It is an awesome gift for any friend or loved one.Girlfriendgifts

Why, is this a great gift you ask (I know you didn't I'm just looking for a way to tell you why I like them!).  There is no better gift than the one that says, "I didn't pull this out of my closet and regift it to you."  With their monogram on it your recipient will KNOW you picked this item especially for them.  And, when you are out with your friends celebrating or just having a good time and you walk off and leave your glass you won't have to ask if this glass is yours...with monograms on them, everyone will know whose is whose.

Then the photo shows the Finders Key Purse which are just the most handy thing to have and if you don't have yours yet then you are missing the boat.  They hang to the outside of your handbag and make finding your keys so easy.  Everyone who picks one up comes back to buy these for their friends and family.  We show them here with the initials on them but we have others (martini glass, paw print etc..) and it doesn't matter which you gift, these should be on your list.  They are really that great.

Finally, the purse hooks shown come in monograms too and if you like to meet up with friends at restaurants or bars, every one of your girls needs one of these.  They hang from the edge of the table and you place your purse handle on the hook so your bag dangles under the table.  It keeps your handbag off the yucky floor and is more secure too.  The crazy thing is these are just becoming popular and people who have never seen them are likely to come from across the restaurant to ask what it is.  This really happened to a friend of mine and she said the lady actually grabbed her purse and exclaimed "What's this?"  After Kimberly demonstrated it, the lady wanted one too.

Remember, if you purchase your gifts at Accents! we'll send you out wrapped and ready, and it won't cost you a dime extra  It's FREE!  Last week a lady I work with asked me, "So why would I go buy a gift anywhere but at your store if you are going to wrap that cute and not charge me?"  My point exactly :) !  Becky

More on "Why Us"

A while back I posted a blog on the topic of why customers should choose Accents over other stores and websites selling home decor and gifts.  I told you that I'd write more on this at a later date and today's the day.  I guess I'm compelled to revisit this because I finally had some time to go shopping out of town and had a fabulous time and some great experiences.  It always makes me think about your experience when you visit my store.  So here goes:

At Accents we have a broad selection of merchandise that fits well with many decor choices.  From lodge to contemporary, you'll find it at Accents.  I love to go in a store and have lots and lots of choices so that's what I've created for you.  It's one of the most frequent comments that I hear, that the store is larger than it appears from the outside and that there are so many different styles represented in all that space.  Keep in mind that what I said in the previous post stands true, we are your shoppers when at the Markets.  My group is shopping for good style and design, preferably functional and not just pretty, and of course at a great value.  When a decor piece fits this criteria and also fits with multiple decorating styles it is a win.  That piece will have lasting power for you too.  You can use it an enjoy it in many different rooms, over the years through your many different decorating style preferences.  And don't forget that we always show you 'how' at Accents.  The vignette displaying is perfect for seeing your new items in use within a decor theme.

Another reason to choose us...it seems simple but when I have to hike across what feels like two football fields to get into a store, I love to park at the door.  Accents has on-street parking up both sides of Jefferson Street.  You can park right outside the door.

After you've made your selections, we'll even help you carry and load them into your car.  Heck, we'll even let you walk out empty-handed and we'll do the carrying if that would make you a more satisfied customer.  The folks that work at Accents really like their jobs and their customers.  We like to help decorate your home, accessorize your latest outfit or select your gift.  We'd probably take it all the way home for you if you needed for us too.  Just to see how it looked and enjoy it with you.  That would be fun...maybe I need to consider a new service at Accents!

Well, I hope you've had fun with this week's ideas and ramblings.  My four year old is getting antsy so I'd better go check out what he's up too. Have a great week..I'll see you at Accents!
